Where is Cape Town?

Cape Town is a bay city located at the bottom of South Africa and lies on the northern end of the Cape Peninsula. It is surrounded by the Atlantic Ocean and was the first site of European settlement in South Africa. On World Environment day in 1998, Cape Town was described as a ‘gift to the Earth’ by President Nelson Mandela and has consistently proved itself through years of living up to its grand reputation.

Things to know before you arrive

If you’re wondering about the temperatures in Cape Town and what to expect when it comes to the Mediterranean-style climate: picture a dry & warm summer vs a wet & cool winter. However, don’t let the idea of a crisp winter scare you into missing out. While the average annual temperature runs on the cooler side (17-21’C), you’ll still be able to enjoy plenty of the activities that it has to offer – just be sure to bring a coat!

You don’t need a visa if you’re visiting South Africa for tourism purposes for up to 90 days. In other cases, you’ll need a visa. Leaving and re-entering South Africa won’t automatically give you another 90 days.

Accommodation in Cape Town

Cape town Holiday Villas are some of our most popular options for luxury vacation stays that don’t break the bank. They offer stunning views such as the CBD, waterfront or Table mountain and have everything you need to feel comfortable during your time away from home. Some features include parking, housekeeping, in-house tours and even wifi – although you’ll hardly even need the internet while surrounded by all the adventure. One of the locations we highly recommend is the Ocean View House – a family-run villa that spoils their guests with options for relaxation, activities and adventurous discovery of Cape Town’s natural wonders. However, if you prefer to be in the heart of the bustling CBD, the Grand Daddy is another iconic hotel in the city centre with over 120 years of history in calling Long Street home. These are two of our favourite local stays and we can’t wait for you to agree!

Places to visit in Cape Town

It’s easy to get lost in time on a scenic beach in Cape town but we will make sure you stay inspired and dive head first into the must-do’s in the area. Table Mountain is one of South Africa’s most iconic landmarks and is extremely popular amongst travellers visiting Cape Town. The cable cars will take you right to its peak where you can enjoy the crisp air and breathtaking scenery of the Twelve Apostle Mountains. If you’re not a fan of heights, Boulders Beach in False bay will keep you feeling warm and fuzzy inside with the famous colony of African penguins that frequent the area. They are also known as “Jackass Penguins” due to the way they honk like donkeys, but don’t let their name fool you – these guys are smartly dressed and ready to impress you with their charm. However you decide to explore Cape Town – don’t forget to bring your camera.
